Child rights

Universalisation of Elementary Education

One major focus of CARPED is the promotion of child rights. This includes the promotion of elementary education through day and evening centres by motivating parents and children of marginalized communities, especially girls, for enrollment into government schools and hostels. Around 3000 children in Kowdipally mandal have been enrolled into government schools through CARPED's efforts since 1998. Other activities are taken up to fight child labor as well as child marriages. Besides, CARPED has implemented various programs for nutrition and health care for mothers and children, such as immunization programs, birth registration, regular pre- and postnatal examinations etc in Kowdipally mandal. Sanitation facilities and clean drinking water facilities have been improved in the villages with the assistance of government.

Safe environs for school children

CARPED has initiated a programme in Hyderabad, Warangal and Medak, to create a safe place to walk for school children. Sensitisation of children, parents and teaching community on road safety have been started in a cluster of schools. CARPED aims to intensify the campaign for safe environs around the schools for children with the participation of NGOs, CBOs and volunteers.

Training & Resource Centre

CARPED is engaged in designing participatory training tools and materials in the areas of forest protection, child rights, documentation and educational material on development issues. A team of professionals from social sciences, environment education and engineering are engaged in these activities. The team caters to the capacity development needs of the development practitioners of NGOs and CBOs in the districts. It is more specifically focused on participatory forestry and child rights.
